FILM FESTIVALS AND AWARDS:

 

 On the big screen her first role was her portrayal of a Bulgarian nurse in Denys Arcand's LES INVASIONS BARBARES (english title) THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS. The movie has won Canada's first Oscar for a feature film and has won awards at Cannes, Bangkok and Toronto International Film Festivals, as well as 6 Genies, 4 Jutras, 3 Cesars and a Lumiere and many more. Anna-Marie as Mary Smith

 In her next film she jumped to leading lady status playing a quirky housewife who decides it is time to have a baby in the house. The short comedic film entitled EVERYDAY REGULAR THINGS was the official selection in the Student Program at the Toronto International Film Festival and has screened at the Canadian Filmmakers Festival, The Students Shorts Festival 2004, ION Short Film Festival , World of Comedy Festival , Camera Bar  and The Female Eye Film Festival where it was nominated for Best Short and Best of Show. The creator, Terri-Ann Gawthroupe has received the Natalie McDonald female filmmaker of the year award for the film hand-picked and presented to her by fellow Canadian filmmaker Bruce McDonald.

This was followed by another leading role, the femme fatale in Michael Vas's' independent black & white film FILLIDOR produced by Six Elements Media Limited. The comedy is about a bitter feud between two rival professors escalating to new levels of cruelty and absurdity when they start demonstrating their conflicting theories on each other's better halves. This film has screened at Camera Bar, Euroshorts Festival, Mediawave Festival, Detroit International Film Festival, Declaration International Film Festival U.K., Gimli Film Festival, Yellow Cab Film Festival and Canadian Filmmaker's Festival where it won Best Screenplay and has won the special award for originality at the Belgrade International Festival of Short Film. View the trailer here.

Anna-Marie with Mitchell in Chasing the Monochrome Rainbow

In CHASING THE MONOCHROME RAINBOW Anna-Marie plays a happily married woman who experiences clinical depression after the loss of a child. This experimental film touches on the stigmas and misconceptions surrounding this diagnosis. It premiered at the Young Cuts Film Festival and will be screened at the Female Eye Film Festival.

East Hill Productions RISE UP had its Canadian premiere at the  Calgary International Film Festival had its international premiere at Afifest in Los Angeles, it has screened at the Hollywood First Glance Film Festival Delray Beach Film Festival in Palm Springs, the Canadian Filmmaker's Festival in Toronto and the Newport Beach Film Festival. Soaring Heart Pictures KING OF SIAM, an independent film about an ill-fated relationship between a father and son and their desperate attempt at having a real relationship. Anna-Marie plays the role of Maria, the mother/wife. It has been the Official Selection at the Long Island International Film Expo where it won the Jury Award for Best Short Film Drama, the Hollyshorts Film Fest in L.A., Short Film Fest, Australian Film Festival, Short Film Festival of India, Wildsound Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival and is had its television premiere on OFF THE LOT.

 

In Michael Sheehan's film KNOWN DONOR , a comedy that explores the pros and cons of online sperm banks, she plays a sperm expert. This film was the official selection at the New York International Film Festival where it recieved a 3.5 out of 4 rating and the Sao Paulo International Film Festival.

 

Her latest work, ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS: THE WAY OF A TOSSER, a feature mockumentary about the International World Rocks Paper Scissors Championship Tournament (no really). She plays the role of Gretal Sass, and exocentric art gallery owner. This film had it's first screening at The Cambridge Film Festival where it won the Audience Top Pick Award. It is also the Official Selection at The Edmonton Film Festival where it won Best Canadian Feature Film Award and The Norrkoping Film Festival (that's Sweden). Anna-Marie's body of work also includes playing the part of "Mother" on Y.T.V. series SERIOUSLY WEIRD, a psychiatric patient who takes revenge into her own hands in LET'S CALL HER MARY, an ambitious whore who wants a better life in the Film Noir THE NUMBER ONE MAN, a psychotic woman who hires a professional thief to steal her jewels in SIMPLE PLAN, a talented wildlife painter and single mother who is diagnosed with a brain tumor and faces the most serious decision of her life in FREE SPIRIT and a disgruntle mob wife in TRUE MONGRELS.  Followed by the role of Elizabeth, Norbert's estranged daughter in the film NORBERT and REGRET, a dark comedy about 3 couples who play a board game that make each player commit 'regrettable' played out moves and A SYMPHONY OF LOVE AND FEARset in the backdrop of 1950s Americana, a married couple comes home after an elaborate cocktail party only to find themselves caught in a symphony of love and fear. Followed by THE BIRTHDAY , an independent film by Elena Bojilova (Chasing the Monochrome Rainbow) and A DATE WITH DENNIS, Anna-Marie is the date from hell in the comedy-thriller. The film won the title award at the Peter Gerretsen Awards
